We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . .

Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.

Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .

There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it's his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.

When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again.

IB Teen says her peace on Pure:
Trust me, you haven't really read anything like this. Yes you've read some really excellent post-apocalyptic novels, but none of them actually compare to what is inside Pure. There is beauty in the horrific nature of the damaged humans, many nothing more than just monsters, but as Bradwell says in the book, there is beauty in survival.

The characters in this book are everything, small characters with huge footprints like El Capitan and the heartbreaking Helmund. Or main characters like Pressia who grip the reader tight and take them on a terrible journey in a frightening and stunning environment. This is a cannot miss book. You can't say you love the post-apocalyptic or dystopian genre and NOT read this book. I cannot wait for Fuse, I hate the almost year-long wait for it's release. I want to stay in their terrible world, I feel like the roller coaster stopped and I didn't want to get off. The synopsis on Fuse may be spoilery so proceed with extreme caution.

After a young Wretch is abducted by the Dome and "cleansed" of her fusings and imperfections, she is only able to repeat the Dome's latest message: "We want our son returned. This girl is proof that we can save you all. If you ignore our plea, we will kill our hostages one at a time." Willux will go to any lengths to get his son Partridge back, including murder.

Partridge sacrifices himself and returns, in the hope of taking over the Dome from within, only to uncover more of his father's chilling, dark secrets. Outside the Dome, Pressia, Bradwell, and El Capitan are decoding the secrets from the past—tucked away in one of the Black Boxes—to uncover the truth that might set the wretches free of their fusings forever.

Those fighting Willux will be pushed over boundaries, both land and sea, heart and mind, in their quest—further than they ever imagined.
