The Goblin Market has always been the center of Sin’s world. But now the Market is at war with the magicians, and Sin’s place is in danger. Thrown out of the Market she loves, Sin is thrown together with brothers Nick and Alan—whom she’s always despised.
Alan has been marked by a magician and is being tortured so that the magicians can get to Nick. As Sin watches Alan struggle to protect the demon brother he loves, she begins to see him in a new light—but she and Mae are locked in a fierce rivalry over who will inherit the leadership of the Goblin Market, and a decisive battle with the Aventurine Circle is looming. Mae’s brother, Jamie, is holed up with the magicians, his loyalties in question. And Nick—well, who knows what a demon might do to save his brother? How far will Nick go to save Alan—and what will it cost them all?

Mae Crawford’s always thought of herself as in control, but in the last few weeks her life has changed. Her younger brother, Jamie, suddenly has magical powers, and she’s even more unsettled when she realizes that Gerald, the new leader of the Obsidian Circle, is trying to persuade Jamie to join the magicians. Even worse… Jamie hasn’t told Mae a thing about any of it. Mae turns to brothers Nick and Alan to help her rescue Jamie, but they are in danger from Gerald themselves because he wants to steal Nick's powers. Will Mae be able to find a way to save everyone she cares about from the power-hungry magician's carefully laid trap?

----------------------------
Nick and his brother, Alan, have spent their lives on the run from magic. Their father was murdered, and their mother was driven mad by magicians and the demons who give them power. The magicians are hunting the Ryves family for a charm that Nick's mother stole -- a charm that keeps her alive -- and they want it badly enough to kill again.
Danger draws even closer when a brother and sister come to the Ryves family for help. The boy wears a demon's mark, a sign of death that almost nothing can erase...and when Alan also gets marked by a demon, Nick is desperate to save him. The only way to do that is to kill one of the magicians they have been hiding from for so long.
Ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Nick starts to suspect that his brother is telling him lie after lie about their past. As the magicians' Circle closes in on their family, Nick uncovers the secret that could destroy them all.

As an adult I feel as though The Demon's Lexicon series was the most complex and nuanced of the trilogies I've loved in YA. I never knew where the story was going to go, and I NEVER really knew what most of the characters were REALLY up to.
I'd hate a character in one book, then that character would narrate the next book and I'd get a perspective from them that completely changed my opinion of them, or of one of the others. I hadn't caught the full story or the fullness of the characters in it until I'd completed the trilogy.
Humor, suspense, danger, fascination, love, hate, despair, loneliness, power, ruthlessness. Sarah Reese Brennan stirred up passionate and intense reactions, feelings, and fervent wishes from deep within me. As a reader that is a treasure to experience.
Demon's Surrender gave me Alan. A real Alan behind all the lies and scheming. I never imagined I could love him as hard as I love Nick. But I do, I really really do.
Demon's Surrender also gave me an ending that was sad and hopeful and perfect in a way that I hadn't imagined. I'm not going to detail anything here- I hate reviews that give it all up and leave no mystery for the readers to uncover themselves. I wish for you new readers to experience it fully.
I'm sad to have to say goodbye to these characters. But looking at it as a total piece- from the free short stories online, like "Nick's First Word" where Nick is a little boy, threaded throughout the three books- I am satisfied. But as a glutton, as a fan, as someone who in love with these characters I will always want more.
