Alina and Mal are trying to make their way in the New World . . . but it’s not easy. Alina has to hide her true nature, and neither of them can quite forget the past.

When the Darkling shows up again, with new and terrifying powers, it’s like something out of a nightmare. Soon they’re caught up in a whirlwind search for another amplifier, the elusive sea whip. But once they find it, can they keep it out of the Darkling’s hands? And can they trust Sturmhond, the privateer who is so mysteriously intent on helping them?

Alina finally returns to Ravka to lead the Grisha against the Darkling. But as she sits where the Darkling once sat, sleeps where he slept, and leads the very people he once led, she finds herself wondering if she isn’t playing right into his hands, after all.

This is the sequel to the MUST read SHADOW & BONE! I was on a cloud during my reading of SHADOW & BONE, and for weeks afterwards. I loved the fantastical world Leigh Bardugo transported me to in her first novel. I've said it before, we are in the midst of a Golden Age in YA, and 2012 may have been the best. SHADOW & BONE was one of the absolute best of the year so far. I always say that I cannot wait for a book to be released, and in doing so, it may come off as hyperbole. But I LOVE my books, I am madly in love with several and I would die inside without them in my life. The first book in the Grisha Series was absolutely exquisite, and I fully expect to find another treasure in SIEGE & STORM.

Readers must also check out the companion Fairy Tale that Bardugo wrote, it is something that the characters of The Grisha Series would have been told as children. It's titled THE WITCH OF DUVA and it is brilliant.

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.

A Ravkan Folk Tale

There was a time when the woods near Duva ate girls… or so the story goes. But it’s just possible that the danger may be a little bit closer to home. This story is a companion folk tale to Leigh Bardugo’s debut novel,Shadow and Bone.

"There was a time when the woods near Duva ate girls.
It’s been many years since any child was taken. But still, on nights like these, when the wind comes cold from Tsibeya, mothers hold their daughters tight and warn them not to stray too far from home. “Be back before dark,” they whisper. “The trees are hungry tonight.”
