These book covers for The Blessed series, passed and present, are breathtakingly beautiful. The art of the portraits are just beyond. I could not get into the first book, THE BLESSED. I don't know if I was in the wrong head space for this niche, or if I just have such a knee jerk aversion to reading anything thematically religious. I don't read books on angels (sorry fans of Becca Fitzpatrick or Cynthia Hand, I am not on board), so why would I connect to a book on modern day saints and martyrs? But I also think that is very narrow minded of me, and I'm letting an aversion of religion get in the way of what could be good storytelling. A good story is a good story is a good story, right?
