What do you do in the wake of a life-altering tragedy? Survive.

After a horrible family tragedy, Gordie moves in with his half-brother Kevin’s family. It is an ideal arrangement, because Kevin is his safe haven and the only person who can deal with Gordie’s post-traumatic stress disorder.

But just as the fifteen-year-old’s life is becoming normal—star goalie of the high school hockey team, interest from an attractive girl—Gordie’s biological father comes back into the picture, demanding a place in his life. Now there’s no hiding from the grief and guilt, nothing to stop him from falling into a horrible tailspin. The only one who can help Gordie is himself . . . if he can find the strength to confront the past and take back his future.

IB Teen's Review of THESE GENTLE WOUNDS

This may be the BEST book I've read all year- can't wait for it to hit shelves in May of 2014.

Beautifully written. Geordie is an unforgettable character who seems like he's mentally spinning out of control, and you just want to spin away into nothingness with him. His pain had the feeling of shattered glass and you feel it in a thousand different ways, in a thousand different cuts. But the most special thing in this story is the relationship between Geordie and his older brother Kevin. Geordie is hanging onto sanity by the skin of his teeth- and by the sheer will power of his big brother Kevin, the guy who would follow Geordie into a fiery pit of hell just to save his brother. After everything they had been through together, nothing and no one was going to come between them. Or at least that is what they hope.

My most emotional moments as a reader was in the scenes between them, I cried, I was afraid, and I wanted to jump in and HELP them. Being in Geordie's head was incredibly and unforgettably intense, I would beg and plead this author to give her readers a glimpse into Kevin's head and see what his survival journey was like. Tragedy, love, guilt, abuse, trauma, isolation, first crush-may be even love, terror, redemption, loss- it's all here. 2014 will be a better year in publishing with this book's debut. I LOVED THIS BOOK!
