A companion fourth book in the New York Times—bestselling Razorland YA series reunites Deuce, Fade and Tegan as they fight a new war with the evolving and more intelligent Freaks.

After the war of Horde, the huntress Deuce and her partner Fade have settled down to a more domestic life together. Tegan, always showing a talent for healing, has apprenticed with a doctor, but when the doctor dies, there are many unanswered questions about illness and health. Tegan seeks out Deuce and Fade to help her find the mysterious "Catalina" that the doctor talked about. Tegan is accompanied by Millie, a village girl ready for adventure, and meets Szarok, the leader of the Uroch, who are the more intelligent of the Freaks. The shaky peace between human and Freak is at risk, and though Szarok is a friend, he serves his kind and longs to see them treated with dignity. But one leader cannot hold off a horde.

Fans of Enclave will be thrilled to return to this fascinating, frightening world.

I've made no secret of my DEEP and abiding love for Ann Aguirre's Enclave series. It is in my top 3 all time YA series. EVER. Deuce is still one of the most bad ass bitches I have ever read. I'd put her in a pitch fight against the (novellas version of) Celaena Sardothien and actually wonder who would come out alive. No magic, just hard won skill and guts- THAT is Deuce. The world created for the post-apocalyptic monster-filled Razorland universe is so perilous, mysterious, and at times vast and at times claustrophobic that there is soooo much story left to tell. But I NEED Deuce and Fade to not have to fight anymore. They earned their hard fought peace through blood and sacrifice and death. Can I say that the death of Stalker still kills me after all this time. It really bothers me that he didn't make it to the finish.

The epic conclusion to the USA Today bestselling trilogy.

The horde is coming.

Salvation is surrounded, monsters at the gates, and this time, they're not going away. When Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan set out, the odds are against them. But the odds have been stacked against Deuce from the moment she was born. She might not be a Huntress anymore, but she doesn't run. With her knives in hand and her companions at her side, she will not falter, whether fighting for her life or Fade's love.

Ahead, the battle of a lifetime awaits. Freaks are everywhere, attacking settlements, setting up scouts, perimeters, and patrols. There hasn't been a war like this in centuries, and humans have forgotten how to stand and fight. Unless Deuce can lead them.

This time, however, more than the fate of a single enclave or outpost hangs in the balance. This time, Deuce carries the banner for the survival of all humanity.

Salvation isn't as safe as it seems...

Deuce’s whole world has changed. Now living topside in a community called Salvation, she has a whole new set of problems. Down below, she was considered an adult, and she contributed to the whole. Now, topside, the people of Salvation think she’s a brat in need of training. She hates school, and she doesn’t fit in with the other girls. They’ve spent their lives learning to cook and sew–suitable woman’s work. Deuce only knows how to fight. To make matters worse, Fade keeps her at a distance, and the band of four has broken into fragments.

Stalker presses for a closer relationship, but Deuce sees him as a training partner, and she’s busy trying to find her place in Salvation. She refuses to accept that she’s wrong for being who she is, but tensions rise as she struggles against the status quo. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.

Once she’s free from school for the year, Deuce pursues a chance to serve in the summer patrols–those responsible for making sure the growers and planters can work the fields without danger of Freak attack. It should have been routine, little fighting, but things have been changing on surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks are smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it will take a girl like Deuce to turn the tide.

Okay, it's just the preview of the cover, but isn't it perfection? As the cover of Enclave was exactly right, capturing the grit and mostly underground/post-apocalyptic setting of the book, Outpost is the rough/rustic new life full of danger Deuce, Fade, & co. now have. I swoon for the horror of this series. And I may be grasping at straws, but if you notice, the nails on the Freak on the cover of Enclave are longer than the more human nails on the cover of Outpost. Is it a reflection on how beastial the Freaks were underground, and how much more sentient they are aboveground where they have a greater food supply, light, and fresh air? Am I reading too much into this?
